In New Mexico we have been experiencing the worst drought in over 6o years. Here in the northern mountains we live in a land that resonates with natural beauty and abundance. The traditional "monsoons", daily afternoon rains, begin in early July. As a prayer to the rain gods the artists of the Penasco area are participating in an art show that is offered in hopes of bringing rain back to the mountains and the rivers so the acequias may again run free and the forests may return after the many fires.
The painting I made for this exhibit is called "Por Las Truchas", Spanish for "For the Trout". The Rio Grande trout is local to the region and needs more water in order to survive.
In Penasco, participating venues are Art For the Heart, Sugar Nymph's Bistro, Penasco Theater, and Gaucho Blue Gallery. You can see the artworks in those locations beginning July 4th and running through August 14th .
Opening celebrations are all about water!! Starting from 2-5, at Art for the Heart, there will be "watery" artworks, water fun for the kids, local musicians playing, and refreshments, and the "Embellished Umbrella" contest will be judged.
At 5 the festivities will move over to Gaucho Blue for the monsoon party. Don't miss it!
