Collages of the Ghost Pony Legend

Well I am leaving way too much time between posts and will try to do better. Already committees are in full steam ahead mode for studio tour preparation. High Road Studio Tour this year takes place September 22, 23, 29, 30. Hope to see you then!

Moon of the Ghost Ponies

In my studio there has been an unexpected shift in some of the work I have been doing. After four years of vibrant color in my work, the black and white images are again coming to the forefront. I started making a group of collages around the Ghost Pony legend. They are a mix of various print-making techniques and painting techniques. The first one I finished sold right away, and I have to confess I did not want it to go so quickly. It was a starting place for a series I wish to keep working with for a while. See what you think!

My Bio

Unlike many artists I didn't begin consistently making images until my mid 30's. The two dimensional surface fascinated me. I started with water colors, a natural choice of medium in the watery Pacific Northwest. While living in Seattle I developed a language of image-making that has stayed with me since.

When I moved to the mountains of northern New Mexico in 2007, my world and my artwork opened up in ways I never imagined. Here is a land of high mountain air, abundant sun, striking visual landscape and strong cultural influences. Immediately my colors became bold. My surrounding environment, under a brilliant sky, surrounded by untold natural beauty, sustains plants and animals and the dance of their inter-relationships that inform the works that I now create.
