Taos in Top 20 Small Towns

The April 19 issue of Washington Post mentions that Taos is appearing in the May addition of Smithsonian Magazine topping the list, with Great Barrington, MA, of the top 20 small towns in the US!! and we are so pleased.

This photo, from the Smithsonian, was taken in Ranchos de Taos, the place to begin following the incredible vistas that wind through the mountains to the foot of Jicarita Peak. You follow highway 518 from Ranchos and turn right onto hwy 76 at Placitas. This is the actual beginning point for the High Road Fall Arts studio tour. From there you will be able to visit artists in their homes, studios and local galleries all the way down through the quaint old villages of Vadito, Llano, Penasco, Rio Lucio, Chamisal Ojo Sarco, Truchas Cordova, Cundiyo and ending in at the Santuario de Chimayo. It's beautiful and it's a one-of-a-kind experience. You will be so glad you came.

My Bio

Unlike many artists I didn't begin consistently making images until my mid 30's. The two dimensional surface fascinated me. I started with water colors, a natural choice of medium in the watery Pacific Northwest. While living in Seattle I developed a language of image-making that has stayed with me since.

When I moved to the mountains of northern New Mexico in 2007, my world and my artwork opened up in ways I never imagined. Here is a land of high mountain air, abundant sun, striking visual landscape and strong cultural influences. Immediately my colors became bold. My surrounding environment, under a brilliant sky, surrounded by untold natural beauty, sustains plants and animals and the dance of their inter-relationships that inform the works that I now create.
