Next Process Step: "Heralds of the Dawn"
Well this image is not a lot different from the previous day's work (see post for 3/13/15), even though a lot more work has gone into it. One thing you really can't see in a photo is the paint layering that shows up so well when you are up close and personal.
As in beginning any day's work, I took a look at what I wanted to keep and what I was not too fond of. I didn't really like the ball of sun in the bottom, so I changed it into intense brightness instead. I may yet put that ball back, a little lower down, but for now I want to see how the rest of the piece unfolds. I refrained from touching that lovely patch of orange about 1/5 way up on the right and kept a lot of the muted yellow and green mix about 1/3 of the way up on the left. I added more layers, used a nearly dry stencil brush to make misty clouds rising up, changed all of it into a slightly new dawn and stopped again. The working palette remains the same.
Most of you painters probably know this, but I'll say it anyway. Sometimes we forget to use the simplest tools. Taking a photo and looking at it on the computer screen is a wonderful way to see where you are with your image as a whole in relation to balance, color, depth, value, etc. If you are not doing that, consider starting.
More to come soon!!
